The Jimmy Davis Memorial Cup 14th
July 2007

Yet another
beautiful sunny day for Jimmy’s memorial cup and what a fantastic turn out
we had at the Bee Hive from Studley F C fans and an overwhelming amount of
F C United of Manchester fans. The day started with the juniors playing
prior to kick off. Headless Cross, the visiting team won the game after some
great football from both Studley Juniors and Headless Cross. The
presentation was made to the junior teams by Joe Rossiter and Warren
Dowler, life time friends of jimmy and the player of the match was Lucy
from Studley . Well done Lucy!!

Lucy
The fans were buzzing and there was a fabulous
atmosphere and the teams kicked off - there was some great play! It
was F C United who domineered the game during the first half - the whistle went
with the score being 2 -0 to the visitors. During the second
half Studley F C battled well and were awarded a penalty half way through
the second half, which was duly converted, and the final score at full time was 2-1, a great game all
round!

F C United of Manchester
The presentation
was made by special guest Ray Lewington, former Manager of Watford F.C, where
Jimmy was going on loan for 2003 but sadly died on the opening day of the
season.

Reds clinch Jimmy Davis Memorial Cup
Two first half goals from FC United’s player of the 2006/07 season, Rory
Patterson were enough to get the Reds’ pre-season campaign off to a
winning 2-1 start against Studley FC and secure the Jimmy Davis Memorial
Cup.
The match was played in a competitive but friendly manner as the main
purpose of the day was to raise money for the memorial fund which helps
young, up and coming footballers.
United had virtually two different teams in the first and second halves as
manager Karl Marginson seems keen to give run outs to as many different
players as possible before the start of the season.
Former Salford City midfielder Dale Whitehead and ex-Flixton striker and
Bolton Wanderers trainee Anthony Hargreaves were both given debuts and a
number of the club’s youngsters were given the chance to show what they
can do in the first team.
Young forwards Lee Ellis and Gary Edwards both had opportunities to seal
the game in the second half before Studley threatened to get back into
things late on by converting a penalty. Young forwards Lee Ellis and Gary

But it was too little, too late from the hosts as United saw out the match
at 2-1 to lift the cup, rounding off a good work out for the players old
and new and another good day out for United’s army of travelling
supporters who enjoyed some rare July sunshine.
